Synthesis Essay. A large part of learning to think complexly about issues is figuring out how to make sense of credible sources that don’t quite agree with each other, whether because they directly contradict each other or because they focus on ifferent aspects of the same issue. In the synthesis essay, you will further your ability to analyze sources rhetorically and then go beyond analysis to explain how sources work together to influence your own thinking about the issue.
Our issue (or “synthesis question,” to use the language of the textbook) is “What are the primary causes of the obesity epidemic, and therefore what are the best solutions?”
You will choose TWO of the texts provided below to use for your synthesis essay (I will also upload the link of thest two texts on file) . You should at least skim through all of the texts before selecting the two you will use; these two texts that you believe relate to each other in an interesting way and that you found particularly surprising or thought-provoking.
-Did the Food Environment Cause the Obesity Epidemic? by Kevin D. Hall
The Obesity Epidemic in the USA – No End in Sight? by Jacob C. Seidell and Jutka Halberstadt
