Survey Research and Analysis Plan. For this assignment, you will need to develop a specific research question for your final research project, along with a research and analysis plan for how you will conduct it. Eventually, you will collect data and write your final research paper. But for this assignment, you will need to do three things to prepare for your final project: (1) Develop a specific research question that you can answer by collecting data. (2) Develop a survey or questionnaire that you can give to participants to collect data. (3) Develop a sensible research plan that describes how you will recruit participants, administer your questionnaire or survey, and analyze the data you collect.
The first thing you need to do is develop an empirical research question for your project. Researchers typically develop research questions by reading and reviewing the literature and thinking about where there are gaps: What aspects of this topic have other researchers overlooked? Where is the literature unclear or conflicting? They also consider their other interests and expertise to come up with a unique and interesting question. Based on what you discovered in your literature review and your own personal interests, please come up with a specific research question.
Your question will need to be related to the general topic you chose for your literature review, but it should focus on a more specific aspect – preferably one that you believe hasn’t been adequately studied in the past. Here are a few possible examples: Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, are people more likely to form negative first impressions of Asian/Asian-American people? Are people more likely to assume that non-gender-binary individuals have certain personality traits as compared to gender-binary individuals?
Are people more likely to assume that people of color are more dangerous or threatening, or more likely to commit a crime, than Caucasian people? So, what do you need to include in your paper? For Part 1, please tell me the exact research question that you have chosen for your study. Please also include a short paragraph explaining why you have selected this question and why you believe it is important to study – you may want to point to information you learned in your literature review.
Once you’ve come up with your research question, you’ll need to design a survey or questionnaire that you can use to gather data from participants. The exact survey questions you’ll ask will depend on your research question and the goals of your study, but there are a few basic guidelines that you’ll need to follow:
