Overview:
Supply Chain Attack. On March 2, Microsoft announced that its widely used Microsoft Exchange Email and calendar application had been hacked. Microsoft has said that the perpetrator is a Chinese APT group dubbed HAFNIUM. The aim appears to have been to steal EMail data from US Government and private sector targets. As many as 30,000 US entities and 60,000 worldwide may have been affected.
A 1,000-1,500 word research paper will be due at the end of week 7. Your paper should reflect good research, analysis and presentation. It must begin with a clear thesis statement, continue with facts and analysis that support the thesis, then raise and defeat possible objections to the thesis and draw a clear conclusion. Analysis:
Do thorough research on the case you chose. Firstly, Define a supply chain attack. Secondly, How does your case meet that definition? Also What happened? How did the perpetrators gain access to the primary target? Hence how did they gain access to the downstream targets? What damage was done? However, What can be said about attribution? Also what might be the objectives of the perpetrators? Therefore, What lessons have been learned? Also how might downstream entities protect themselves from supply chain attacks?
These are just some logical questions to get you started. You do not have to confine yourself to these, and DO NOT simply answer them in order. Lastly, Deliver the information that you believe appropriate. Integrate the information into a well organized paper that covers the entire topic.
