Persuasive Essay of your Choice. This essay asks you to craft a persuasive essay on a topic of your choice (with my approval of the topic and argument). It requires at least four secondary sources. You can approach this essay in one of two ways. either as a straightforward argument paper, or as a rebuttal to another article or source. Either way, the topic should be current and ongoing, and at least somewhat significant to many people’s lives.
If you choose the rebuttal route. Then you will want to argue against the claims made in a newspaper or magazine article, editorial, blog, or other source. Which ever makes an argumentative claim about a significant current event or issue.
You will evaluate the legitimacy and limitations of this source. Also then provide a logical and well-researched rebuttal to the author’s claims. The response will also include a thesis that will be establishing your own claim.
You will find at least one other source that is generally on the side of your initial source, at least two sources that are generally arguing for your side (or another viewpoint), and at least four secondary sources overall. Note that the source you’re debunking will be a primary source, not a secondary one–so you would have five total sources listed on your WC page.
Building from the skills obtained from the first two essays. Additionally, you will assert an extended argument that synthesizes information obtained from secondary sources. However, in order to persuade the writer (and readers) of the original piece and your readers. Also in general to adopt your viewpoint on this current event.
If you choose the straightforward argument route, you will structure the paper as usual, with an intro that ends with a thesis, multiple body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You will use at least four secondary sources.
