Personal Ethical Statement. For this assignment, you will draft a 6-10 page paper that includes a code of ethics that you design for yourself. The code will have a personal conduct section and a professional conduct section. The purpose of this assignment is to help you think through your values and the ethical principles that you believe are important in your personal and professional life. There are many ways to write a code, which means there is no “right” code. What I am looking for is thoughtful engagement with the assignment.
Your first draft should include the following six sections: An introductory statement (1 page) – This statement describes the importance of both aspects of the code and their purposes. You may design the overall code to guide day-to-day behavior and/or as inspiration for the type of person and professional that you want to be. This section also includes a brief overview of the two types of codes.
A personal code of ethical conduct (1-2 pages) – Start off with a statement that gives an overview of your personal code of ethical conduct. After the statement, provide a bulleted list of supporting tenets with an explanatory statement for each one (you should have at least five tenets but may include more). A professional code of ethical conduct (1-2 pages) – Start off with a statement that gives an overview of your professional code of ethical conduct. After the statement, provide a bulleted list of supporting tenets with an explanatory statement for each one (you should have at least five tenets but may include more).
A narrative (essay) explaining how and why you developed these codes (1-2 pages) – Include your thoughts about how you developed into the kind of person you are today. Include aspects of your background that have led directly or indirectly to the values and tenets you present in the codes. A conclusion (1 page) – Summarize the codes. A references page (1 page) – This page is where you will list the sources for the citations/attributed content used in your Code. Please remember to use APA style references with links.
For the first draft, you will be primarily graded on completion. Points will be deducted for incomplete sections, missing references, and pervasive spelling/grammatical errors. You will receive feedback on this first draft that you can incorporate into the final draft.
