Personal Conflict: Arranged Marriages
How do you as a professional family practitioner reconcile a perceived conflict between what the research tells you and your personal value system?
Write a 4-6 page research paper (utilizing peer-reviewed journal articles) in response to this question. Your texts are not considered primary sources for this paper, which should address the following points: Identify a topic within the context of Intimate Relationships where this occurs and describe your personal perceived conflict with the topic (i.e., a couple remaining together after an affair).
Discuss the literature you have accessed to better understand this topic and summarize what you have learned. Describe how you set your values aside when working as a family practitioner (if you are not in a church-based position) OR, if you are church-based, how do you set aside judgment with people?
IMPORTANT NOTE: this paper illustrates how you can professionally consider what valid, peer-reviewed research says (even when it is in opposition to your personal beliefs) and then set aside your values when working as a family practitioner.
The topic and research you identify should be in conflict with a personal value that you hold. Read the NCFR Code of Ethics for Family Life Educators (posted on Blackboard under “Course Materials”) and use as appropriate to guide your discussion.
