Community Corrections. Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words: In February of 2020, an inmate who was incarcerated for murder, escaped. He was on a work release detail, working in his prison clothes. He was on the run for five days before he was caught in a standoff, wherein he threatened to have a knife and explosives strapped to him.
This provides an example of what can happen when the system tries to give people a chance. Many times, people will show they are not really rehabilitated at all. Further, it shows that not all people who can behave in the prison setting will be able to function in a lawful manner outside of prison.
We see in parole hearings that the inmate has done well in prison. That is supposed to convince the parole board that the person should be paroled. However, many times, people’s prior crimes, especially murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and burglary of a residence can indicate that they will not change their ways outside of prison, even if they were able to stay out of trouble while in prison.
How can we keep society safe when we are also trying to provide second chances and rehabilitation to people who statistics show will likely reoffend? Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words: There is a program in Los Angeles that has spread to other major cities and around the world. It is for those who want to leave the gang lifestyle. This program helps them to get an education, get gang tattoos removed, learn a trade and even work and live in the program.
