COMM 1007 Essay Assignment #1 – Critique Essay. For this assignment, you must perform a critical analysis on the article you selected from the ‘Articles for Critique’ folder. Your aim is to create a convincing essay that suggests the article is either effective or ineffective by providing support (quotations with APA in-text citations) from the article for your argument. You are evaluating the strengths or weaknesses of the article.
Tone (Is the article formal or informal – how does the tone strengthen or weaken the article?)
Audience & Purpose (Who is this written for? What is the writer’s purpose?)
Also, Use of Logos / Pathos / Ethos (How does the author use any of these in the argument?)
Use of logical fallacies (Are there logical fallacies that weaken the argument? Which ones?)
Based on the 3 options (key points) you have chosen to critically analyze, create a thesis statement. This will help to focus your thoughts on the strength or weaknesses of the article in general. Remember that you must use 3 of the 5 characteristics above as key points to support your thesis.
APA Format: Times New Roman, 12 pt., double-spaced. Indents at the beginning of paragraphs. APA title page (including running head & page numbers). APA in-text citations for all quotes and a separate reference page.
