A brief, general description should include the composition’s time period, its history, form, and genre. Be sure to include the recording and performing artists on your Works Cited page. Refer to instrumental pieces as pieces, not songs. Songs have words and are sun-g.
The listening description should include a fairly detailed exploration of each work’s style features (melody, rhythm, texture, harmony, tone color) and their movements’ structure. Your perceptions are important – what do you think about these works after analyzing them? Also, Can they be compared to one another; where do they stand in the style period? Also, Research about the historical period and biography of the composer of each piece should be kept to a paragraph.
List the recording you use and the performers. Use five additional sources (other than the recording) and include them in your bibliography. Scholarly online sources are allowe-d – must be actual books, journals or articles! Do not use Wikipedia or Answer.com or someone’s blog. You may not use your textbook as a source for information or listening selections. Be sure to use footnotes or endnotes properly. Consult a writing style manual for format. If you have writing difficulties, the Writing Center is available, and you can meet with me as well.
