Analyzing Russia and Ukraine conflict through IRT and CRT. Theoretical Literature Review of : Russian’s invasion of Ukraine using International Relations Theory and Conflict Resolution Theory
Introduction – My argument- Realism, after losing relevance in a globalized world, is the IR theoretical lens best suited to view the current state of the Ukraine-Russia international conflict and NATO’s expansion response. Normative IR theory provides the best insight into why the global community cannot let stand Russia’s invasion of a peaceful nation. Finally, a comprehensive analysis of this conflict, if intervention is a goal, requires viewing it through conflict resolution theory lenses.
Analyze Russia- Ukraine using realism, normative and constructivist International Relations Theory. Then analyze Russia-Ukraine using conflict resolution theory power, social identity theory, interest’s vs needs, structural theories of violence. Finally, compare the two different analyses, paying particular attention to the assumptions, strengths and weaknesses of each of the two perspectives. What can each perspective help us understand that the other can’t? What does each miss?
