Essential Question/Prompt. What does American literature suggest about the achievability of the American Dream for everyone in society?
To help develop your response think about what the authors read THIS SESSION that I attached in the files would say about:
Also, Does every individual in society have equal access to the American Dream?
Does every individual’s actions guarantee their access to the American Dream?
Suggestions for composing your response:
Are the authors and time periods in agreement about the achievability of the American Dream? Or do they suggest different responses? What are the significant details of their writings that help you determine their response?
Also, YOU MUST USE AND EXPLAIN MULTIPLE PIECES OF TEXTUAL EVIDENCE IN YOUR BODY PARAGRAPHS. How can you convince me you have read the text if you don’t include any of the text in your paragraphs??????
DO NOT default to paragraphing according to authors or time periods. In what OTHER ways can you synthesize (combine) the information from all of the texts (including the research – use quotes from the research as well!) to organize your paragraphs? Also, Think in terms of actions/consequences, positives/negatives, responsibilities/desires, successes/failures, etc.
Your essay should have a total of at least 4 paragraphs – introduction paragraph, 2-3 body paragraphs, conclusion paragraph
Your introduction paragraph should clearly identify your claim or thesis (your overall response to the prompt question)
Your conclusion paragraph should clearly restate your claim/thesis
Also, Use evidence from Whitman’s poem, Gatsby, and any of the research readings, articles, and videos except the Titanic video. Generally, your paragraphs should COMBINE evidence from Whitman and Gatsby together, NOT separate paragraphs for each.
